I don't know whether Came a Hot Friday is available anywhere on DVD. Anne has checked at Videon, Mount Eden - they only have VCR version. (Videon is in the process of shifting further up Dominion Road and, when Anne enquired, their copy of Came a Hot Friday was packed up for the shift - hope I have recalled this info correctly, Annie.)
I was thinking we could simply do something new each time instead of revising the same story. Book club is about the spreading of stories anyway - we could attempt at working our way through this- http://www.imdb.com/chart/top
Hey Greg, I have looked through the Top 250 list at the link you posted: many great movies; some classics; some surprising inclusions and some I have never heard of. (Yes it would be an epic feat to work our way through the list; 20+ years - at a movie per month!) I think we need to talk more about the organisation of Film Club when we next meet. It seems that a lot of us are keen. I must say I liked the idea of the comparative study, but I can also appreciate your view about increasing the number of stories. Perhaps everyone should have a turn at choosing a film - like we do with book choice.
I am so torn between these ideas. I love to compare screenplay vs novel. However, I also like the idea of looking at new stories.
All of our novels so far are also films and most people have expressed a desire to see the film adaption. Perhaps when we have novels that aren't films we could choose something different?
I was thinking more along the lines of doing it in tandem i.e. when one reads the novel; one can also watch it on DVD and then we can compare treatments as part of our discussion of the book. I don't fancy having a seperate meeting to watch/discuss as a stand alone item, a film; the book of which we've already discussed.
Yes - interested!
ReplyDeleteGood grief, am I actually doing something techno?
ReplyDeleteAS the last two books we've done - and the next one - have all been filmed, it might be quite good to compare texts with screenplay treatments.
I think your idea, Kirsten, for the comparative study is inspired!
ReplyDeleteExcellent idea.
ReplyDeleteGeorgia has a VCR for Came a Hot Friday!
